MGBS is an un-sanctioned, purely fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants bike share program. We collect bikes from the trash, garage clean-outs, donors, or wherever we can get our hands on them and do our best to get them back up and running.
Once rideable, we place them at convenient places in Montclair so people will find them, get the lock code, and ride them.
Check around Bloomfield Ave/Montclair Center, MSU, Rand Park and Crane Park to find bikes. This is the ost common places that we drop bikes, but they could be anywhere - wherever the last person left it!
When you are finished using your MGBS Bike, whether that's after an hour, a day, or a week, please return it to one of the following places for the next person to use:
In order to use the service, you do need a way to access the internet and a valid email to receive the lock code.
You do NOT need to sign up or create an account. You also do not need any money to ride.
We highly discourage taking bikes home, and we ask that you please ALWAYS lock the bike up with the provided lock, no matter how short or long a time you are not using it. Bikes being left unlocked are the main reason we lose bikes.
If there is a problem with a bike, please DO let us know, it doesn't matter how it happened - we don't ask questions. Just text us the issue and which bike has the problem so we can address it.
Please use good judgement when leaving the bike for the next person (for example, Newark Airport is a BAD location to leave a bike, as it will be discarded by security, and certainly do not leave it on private property or blocking any walkways)

Best thing to do is tell your friends, and keep an eye out for MGBS bikes around town and use them whenever you can! Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and tag us if you use us.
If you have a bike you'd like to donate to the fleet, please email montclairguerrilla@gmail.com or text us at 973-826-5114
You can also Venmo us if you're feeling extra frisky and want to help support the purchase of new tubes, tires, brake cables, lights, locks, and all the other parts we need regularly.
(NOTE: MGBS is NOT a non-profit and any gifts are NOT tax-deductible)
Also, check out this cool map that someone made of all the spots in Montclair you can lock a bike. We don't know who made it, but it's awesome.
Better someone is riding the bikes than have them in a landfill. And we hope that the presence of available bikes will help people ride more. Maybe make a long walk a short ride, skip a drive or an uber to get somewhere, decide to go for a fun ride around town, or otherwise just remove one obstacle from the decision to take a bike ride.
We have trackers on all of the bikes so we know where they're being used, whether they're being used, and if they've gone missing.
Unfortunately, we don't currently have a reliable way to let the public know where the bikes are at all times.
It's not.
